I recently discovered another fiction-savvy Girl Detective, known as Girl Detective. There are more of us! We’re everywhere! Oh noes! (I love internetisms.)
I also love this comment by Dawn on Girl Detective’s post linking to me:
I made up an imaginary roller derby team called ‘The Girl Defectives.’ My friend already jumped on Veronica Scars, but Nancy Drew Blood and Trixie Bedlam are still available… I’d take either. And some skates. -D
Here’s a random thought while I work up the energy to start my Monday. I’ve never been in a fight, and I realized, after seeing a documentary on female Bolivian wrestlers (I can’t find the flyer with the title, but I’ll do a more thorough search when I get home) and then watching Deathproof a few weeks ago, that I really want to. I want to box someone. I want to spar. Yeah, I’m afraid of getting hurt, but I’ve already broken my nose, so at least I know what to expect.
Oh, who am I kidding? I’m never going to get a chance to fight someone. All this pent-up aggression is just going to continue manifesting itself in jogging, housework, and roughhousing with my husband against his will.
EDIT: The documentary is The Fighting Cholitas by Mariam Jobrani, and I highly recommend it.

thank you for the fabulous image of you repeatedly pushing t. while he sheepishly suggests that you not do so.

Why don’t you join a boxing club? Or do some kickboxing? Or Muay Thai? Or Kyokushin Karate?
Then you’d get to spar and get your aggression out!

Heh. Those are always a good reason.
Maybe next year?

hi there - found you via feministe and just wanted to say that although my blog isn’t dedicated to examining Judaism through a feminist lens, my most recent post talks about the feminist significance of an orange on the seder plate
